Darcy passed away peacefully, surrounded by the comfort of his family, a few days after his 50th birthday at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Born in Kimberley, B.C., Darcy was a passionate theatre artist. His long-varied career as a performer, director and administrator was highlighted by 9 seasons at the Stratford Festival, National Tours and Broadway. His productions were nominated for numerous awards, including Toronto’s Dora Award and Calgary Critic’s Choice Awards. He was also an accomplished educator and mentor to students at college and university training programs in both Canada and the USA. In 2018, Darcy was named Executive & Artistic Director of Calgary’s Alberta Theatre Projects, leading the organization to historic success.
Darcy is survived by his partner Andrew Scanlon, his parents, Wayne and Marilyn, his sister Jan Hargrave brother-in-law Fred, his niece Madelaine, nephew Will, Phillip Hughes and many friends and colleagues across Canada and around the world.
A celebration of Darcy’s life will be held at a later date. His family invites donations in Darcy’s name to be made to Alberta Theatre Projects.
