Darcy was one of Kimberley's most gifted prodigies. Even at a young age, you knew you were witnessing a star emerging and his talents would quickly eclipse a small town stage. Darcy inspired me to lean into those big dreams that seemed impossible to attain for a small girl in Wasa. I will remember him with admiration and appreciation.

To Marilyn,Wayne,Jan and Andrew,
We were so sorry to read about the loss of Darcy. Such a fine and talented young man! My vivd memory is of Darcy and Tracey figure skating together at a competition in Grand Forks. That was a long time ago. He was also one of my students at McKim. You all must be so proud of Darcy and his accomplishments. May he long be remembered.

The Québec members of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Darcy Evans’ family and friends, his team at the Alberta Theatre Projects, and all our peers in the Calgary theatre community. In a country as giant as ours, it is a testament to Darcy’s character, artistry, and vision that his passing has been felt from coast to coast to coast. May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy live on through the fund set up in his honour at the ATP.

Wayne, Marilyn and Jan, Bob and I are so sorry to hear this news. We used to live across the street from your Mom, Marilyn and heard many wonderful stories about Darcy and his theatre prowess. We got to meet him at a time when one of our sons was embarking on a theatre career himself, and he was so very generous with advice and encouragement. Our thoughts are with you all.

I loved Darcy. He’s one of those people in my life we’d go stretches without contact but then pick up where we left off. I have been thinking about him often lately because Kev & I rented a tiny house a couple weeks ago and it reminded me of Darc & my time in NYC. We drove down together. We stayed in the cheapest hotel in not the best area. It was so small that we snapped a pic of him touching everything at once in the room while laying on the bed. I’ll never forget it, so funny. We saw Cabaret while we were there and crashed a private cocktail party at the MET
We bonded on our thrifty fashion. Lots of trips to Value Village. He was the king of thrift!! He would buy 2 suits and take them back if he didn’t think they were 100% awesome. I’m like, “it was $9!” He returned clothing so often! Haha. He bedazzled a pair of jeans one year that took him so long, with an exceptionally intricate pattern. The making of them was epic!
Darcy was meticulous in everything he did. He thought through every aspect of it and expected nothing but the best. Whether it was fashion, home renos, directing, he excelled because he cared and he had skill to see it through.
He accomplished so much in his life. The acting, singing, directing, going back to school, his new career at Alberta Theatre Projects. He earned everything he worked for. He was a hard worker and loved his family, he spoke about them often.
I wish I could have told him how proud I was of all his achievements and how much he’s loved one more time. I wish I reached out more this year but that’s how our relationship was.... Periods of time and then, boom.. will you be my date for opening?! Yes!
I love you Darcy. I’ll say it more to those who are close to me. I wish you could have rocked those abs into your 80s ... and directed and produced forever. We all die but when someone so vibrant passes this young, it’s mind boggling. I love you Darcy. My deepest condolences to Andrew, Darcys’ family, Phillip and the entire theatre community who loved him. Rest In Peace, dear friend

One of my favourite memories of Darcy was when we played newlyweds in a crazy show called FOREVER ISLAND, at the Georgian Theatre Festival. The show was awful but we loved being together on that stage and in our tent that we put up on stage during a song in 4 part harmony. We also carried a kayak through the audience. Just one of my favourites. I can still hear Darcy laughing. He will be missed. My deepest condolences.

I first performed with Darcy in 1995 and then 3 subsequent productions over the next 12 years. His continued friendship has been a huge blessing to me, in good times and otherwise. The otherwise never seemed to last too long with Darcy in your corner. He knew when to listen, when to argue, and when to act. Before I knew it I would not just be genuinely heard and consoled, but also, celebrated, motivated, and moving forward with a plan--perhaps with some new wardrobe too, with his affinity for both style and a bargain. It was, indeed, a privilege to bear witness to his glorious tenor, passion, humour, drive, empathy, intelligence, and professionalism that always seemed in abundance, and to serve making every relationship and workplace better. And so fun! Oh, the fun. Also, it was amazing to watch him flourish as he transitioned his performance career to directing; the beauty of his meticulously directed productions and the inspiration he would both cultivate from and perpetuate with his cast, team, boards, and audiences. He worked and loved so hard. I miss so much about him, particularly his high-pitched delight and enthusiasm whether in the theatre or on a patio. His passing was way too soon. A shock still so hard to grasp. May there be some comfort in the legacy of his considerable and definitive contributions to the arts and his loved ones. My condolences to all who knew and loved Darcy, and particularly to Andrew Scanlon, his parents, Wayne and Marilyn, his sister Jan Hargrave, brother-in-law Fred, his niece Madelaine, nephew Will, and Phillip Hughes. A contribution has been made to ATP in Darcy's honour.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Darcy's passing. We met in 1994 when he was acting in "Fiddler on the Roof" and worked together again in 2011 when he directed "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Sudbury Theatre Centre. We saw each other many times in the intervening years, both professionally and socially. I had heard of the great work he'd been doing at ATP. My sincere condolences to Andrew and to Darcy's family.

My heart and thoughts go out to you and Darcy's family.
I was so happy Darcy joined our curling team last year! I remember working through the rules with him - and being impressed how well he did for a first timer! My favourite times were telling stories in the lounge with the two of you, as well as our video chats when we couldn't see each other.
