1924 - 2009

On Friday, October 16, 2009, with his family by his side, Carl passed peacefully from this life at East Kootenay Regional Hospital at 84 years of age.

He will be remembered as a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humour, accompanied with a quick wit. Born November 24, 1924, and raised on the farm, Carl enjoyed all of the majesty of nature. A storm with lightning and thunder brought him out to the porch or patio to enjoy nature's fireworks. A hunter and a fisherman in his younger years, in his later years, he really enjoyed watching the birds and animals. Like many youngsters of that day, Carl attended a one room school house and then went directly into the work force.

Just before WWII, he started working for Dominion Electric in Dawson Creek. This was to become a life long career for him. While working for BC Hydro, he took correspondence courses to further his education. He worked for BC Hydro in Dawson Creek, Williams Lake, Quesnel, back to Dawson Creek, Hudson's Hope, Fernie and finally to Cranbrook, where he retired as a Supervisor. He was raised in a large close knit family who enjoyed being together. Making music and playing bridge were two of the families' greatest pastimes. Carl always enjoyed getting out his violin or mandolin to play a tune or getting out the cards and having an evening of bridge. Family was very important to him. He was always there for every family celebration. In later years, his great grandchildren were his source of joy. He never lost his inner child and was always full of joy when there was a child to entertain or to entertain him. Never one to take life too seriously, Carl will be remembered best for his sense of humour. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Katie; his daughters: Carol (Bill) Greenhalgh; and Elaine (Jack) McGrath; his daughter-in-law: Elizabeth, and son, Marvin; grandchildren: Keith and Heather Greenhalgh, Cathy and Shon MacKay, Michael and Danielle Curran, Rebecca and Glenn Sanford, Scott and Anita Curran, Jessica and Christian Meredith, Margaret Bjornson, Kathleen Bjornson; great grandchildren: Ben and Liam Greenhalgh, Breanna Bjornson, Joshua and Natalie Curran, Kalum MacKay, Quinn Curran, Charlotte Sanford, and Erin Meredith. He was predeceased by his son Brad, granddaughter Lisa, brothers: Bud and Alvin, and sister Jodis. A celebration of life and Interment at the Dawson Creek Cemetery will be held at a later date.
