January 22nd, 1956 - November 9th, 2007
Everywhere he walked he cleared a path, and everything he touched just moved. Everything he made just grew and grew, Douglas Weech we'll miss you much. On the evening of November 9th, 2007, Douglas Weech passed away. He was in his home, and at rest. This does not lessen the suddenness of the passing, and so much feels left unsaid.
The oldest of four brothers, Doug was born in Brandon, Manitoba, and moved to the Kootenays early in his life. At school in Cranbrook, he made many friends and won the hearts of many young girls. At an early age, yet still a man, Doug took to the outdoors. He thrived off of activities like hunting, fishing, and gardening. Douglas spent much time exploring and facing the challenges of nature, not simply for the fun and thrill of it, but so he could come back home and face anything life threw his way. Doug was raised well, and knew to recognize the value in a thing that no one else saw. Around the home many tools, vehicles, and gadgets which looked to be in total disrepair would start running again. He just had that sort of perseverance. In his career as a railroader he journeyed every day and was a provider unequalled in strength. As a husband he held only love, and when need be, patience, in his heart. As a father, understanding, pride, and compassion. Anyone who came under his roof was treated as his own. Douglas Weech was a man who always gave, and never took. Whether he was driving the train, or clearing through the bush- even just out in the yard- Douglas was always at the front of the line, pulling both his own weight and that of many. He will be loved and honoured by his parents, his wife, countless friends, and all of his children.
Douglas will be missed deeply by his loving family; his wife Mary, sons Joel and Nathan, daughter Lorraine, grandchildren Jason and Justin, his father Earl, mother Dorothy and brothers Dean, Brad and Blaine (Trish).
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday November 17th, 2007 at McPherson's Funeral Chapel in Cranbrook, B.C,.Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #101 - 105 - 9th Ave. S Cranbrook, BC V1C 2M1.
