I feel blessed to have had her in my life and witness the impact she had on others. I loved the sound of her laughter and will miss her deeply. Dear Isobel, Vicki and Nancy and all of your families. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in the loss of Mary. I enjoyed getting to know her more when I volunteered at the cancer office in the 1990s. Since then, whenever I would see her, we would say hello or have a chat. I always enjoyed seeing all of you at the Apollo after the parade. Each one of you will have such wonderful memories and she will be in your heart forever. Love Marguerite

To the Reekie family,
My mom and dad, Willie and Toni Swinney were great friends of you parents and always spoke fondly of them. When mom passed I found a pic from 1942 of our moms as young girls. No wonder they turned heads! I had a very pleasant lunch with your mom and friends just last summer while visiting Cranbrook.
She was a lovely lady and will be missed

Today at World Day of Prayer, so many remarked re: Mary's passing. She was so well known and loved. I also volunteered with her at the Key City Theatre! We will miss her but have such fond memories. She looked & seemed so much younger than her years. Lovely tributes from her grandchildren! Hope to attend the funeral. Hugs, Irene (nee Paulson) Kaun.

As a fairly new volunteer to Key City Theatre, I always looked for the short bright light radiating from the purple vest that was Mary. Always ready with a sparkly smile and a hug, Mary made all of us comfortable and feeling loved. Mary was intelligent as well as capable and did a wonderful, thorough job in her volunteer work at KCT. She is already missed there. I am so happy I had the chance to meet, work with and get to love Mary. She was a special lady and has a special place in my heart.

Mary always had a lovely smile and a great personality! I, Irene was a Red Hat member with her, shared walking for Ca. at the College, sat with her at a tea at Christ the Servant church, was uplifted by her outgoing, encouraging ways. May God in His comfort and peace be with all the family at this difficult time. In friendship & caring, Gordon & Irene Kaun.

Grannie was like a ray of sunshine that would brighten your day the moment she entered the room. I looked at her in amazement for the wonderful active life she lived. Whether volunteering at one of the many organizations that she loved, golfing a round at Mission Hills, swimming at the pool, baking up a storm or spending time with family and friends; Grannie always had a beautiful smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Family was very important to her and she loved attending the kids school Christmas Concerts and activities. I feel truly blessed to have had Grannie in my life, loving me as one of her own and I will cherish the special memories we have shared together as a family.
I love you Grannie

How sad to have heard of Mary's death. We were together at Saturday night Mass just a few days before and earlier in the week volunteering at the theatre. She was a pleasure to work with. A friendly conversation always ensued. We will miss her presence. May her soul rest in peace and your family find strength and comfort in the days ahead.

Then we could sit and talk again, just like we used to do, You always meant so much to me, and always will do too. The fact that you're no longer here, will always cause me pain, but you are forever in my heart until we meet again."

Mary was a joy to be around from the first moment I met her. And whenever I bumped into her in the community she always had a smile and a hug for me. We are less of a community with her passing. I pray that memories of her and everything she was brings comfort to her family and friends at this time of loss.

I knew Mary through her volunteer work at the Canadian Cancer Society. We were so honoured to have her as a volunteer who helped people newly diagnosed with cancer. She was such a super person; always upbeat and positive and an inspiration to all of us. She seemed tireless and always ready for the next adventure. Whenever Mary's name came up in a conversation, everyone smiled, always. She will be sorely missed and leaves many great memories.

Grannie was a ray of sun shine every time we got together. Her smile, laugh and get up and go was truly infectious.
So many memories.... going swimming up at Jimsmith Lake as a boy with her to her watching my kids learn to swim at the public pool, Christmas drinks at her house with all the family, get togethers at my Mom and Dads, Sam Steele day parade then lunch at Apollo with the family, golfing at mission hills, seeing her little head just above the steering wheel as she negotiated around our city potholes and busy downtown at 91 years.
Truly an amazing woman and I will miss her greatly.
Grannie is with my Grandpa now. They both have been waiting a long time to share a drink, hear each other laugh and dance the night away.

It was in the 70's when I first met Mary through business and then on different events over the years. We were both score keepers at a bowling tournament one time and I admired her penmanship on her scoresheet. After that I took more pride in my penmanship . It was always a pleasure to be in her company and I remember those times so well. She was a very special lady!
May all the family's special memories bring comfort during this difficult time.

I met Mary only a year ago when I began sparing in one of her bridge clubs. I loved her instantly - this sparky little woman with her cheeky little chuckle and a twinkle in her eye. The top of her head came up to my clavicle. After a recent heavy snowfall she ventured out in her car and became high-centered in a snowbank, and she said her children chastised her for leaving her house in such inclement weather. "But I feel just like a caged tiger!" she lamented - small though she was, her feistiness made up for it. I feel so honored for having met her, for sharing some laughs and delicious apple pie with her, and for her love of life.
