Sure loved my Matante Gisele and enjoyed a nice long visit there when I was 22....coming from Timmins, it was a long trek with my cousin Darlene!
We camped in an RV near the U.S. border when Mount St.Helen erupted back in 1980. The trip back was a little difficult due to the heavy ash falling from the sky. We all underwent mushroom picking training and picked and picked until we finally had a mushroom feast. We played cards and drank a huge jug of Kelowna wine and Matante had us moving the card table around when the sun was setting as the mountains caused shade. She just loved the rays and had to get her tan!
I took off by myself for a stroll to take a few photos after a couple of glasses and came across a pile of steaming grizzly poo! Needless to say, I headed back to where the others were. They were frantic and looking for me as we had been warned by the game wardens that they had sighted a few grizzlies and given us precautionary measures to take. We were instructed to keep a fire burning all night and keep our food inside.
The sun and the wine mix made me forget all about the bear warning. Glad I lived to tell the story...Aunty Gisele, I love you very much and was very blessed to have you as my Aunt!
Your loving niece, Linda Rochon
