Dave and I always chatted over the fence - we own the place next to his in Cranbrook and go there a couple of times a month to check on things and tend to the garden.
I had an early crop of tomatoes on my "roof' garden this summer and was looking forward to proudly handing him a nice ripe one over the fence - (he planted his tomatoes a little later this year and I knew they wouldn't be ripe yet). He always shared some of his delicious plumbs with us every fall.
I was very sad to hear that Dave had passed suddenly on June 23rd. He had such joy and kindness inside him - he left us far too soon!
We often chatted about our yards, garden and kids/grandkids - the later group - he was most proud of. My husband and Dave would chat about his days at Fording Coal and all that "big" equipment he and his crew maintained. He viewed his working days with pride and had a fine sense of humor telling stories of repairing some of the routine problems and near catastrophes on the jobsite.
We don't know Dave's family, but want to extend our most sincere condolences to all of you. His smile was always ear to ear when he came back from visiting or talking to one of you. And we will never visit our place in Cranbrook without thinking fondly of Dave ourselves.
May he find peace tending his spiritual garden until he meets with all of you again.
Warmly and with sadness,
Terry and Terry Barber

I have not visited this site since shortly after my Dad passed away and I do not remember seeing this but your thoughts, warm memories of your neighborly relationship with my Dad and caring condolences mean more than I can express. I have taken a screen shot of your post , others that were here in 2015 are now oddly gone and I do not want to lose this..its too prescious. Thank you truly for your kind and prescious post Mr. & Mrs. Barber. God bless you. ~ Jennifer Bach

Bryce, Jennifer and grandchildren - so very sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Dave. I have such fond memories of him as we were growing up in Stockholm. The sparkle in his eyes and those deep dimples when he smiled are unforgettable. May the special memories of your dad and grandfather, give you comfort as you go through this loss. Thoughts and prayers, your cousin, Joanne Ladner (Seman)
