Obituary of Ray Joseph George Yawney
Please share a memory of Ray to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished dad Ray Yawney on December 22, 2024.
Ray was born in Blind River Ontario on October 25th, 1960- the youngest of the family. The family moved to Riondel/Central Kootenays in the early 60’s then moved to Kimberley in the late 60’s where he would stay and lay his roots. Like his father, his career was underground at Sullivan mine, then switching to Line Creek after the shutdown.
He was so proud of each of his children and loved to spend time with them/their families and his grandchildren, whether it was incorporating his hobbies with them or coming for a get-together/celebration, or just to come hang out.
Ray had many hobbies throughout his life including stock car racing, snowmobiling, quadding, biking, and camping to name a few. Changing tires was an expertise of Rays, he volunteered his time to this selflessly to many of his family and friends.
Ray loved a good deal whether it was a vehicle or a meal. A good deal was a good deal, and he was always excited to tell you about it.
Competition was always bubbling out of his fast-paced life, especially when motors and or his brother were involved!
Anytime family members/friends needed anything, Ray would be the first person there giving his shirt off his back if needed.
Although there aren’t enough words to express how grateful we were for our time with our father, we just want to say he will be forever fondly remembered and missed.
Ray is survived by his siblings Jan (Wayne), Stan (Urzula), and Theresa (Greg), children Brenna (Tyson), Dana (Calen), Cameron, Logan, and Kade, grandchildren Alyssa, Metteya, Marlee, Mckenzie, Weston, Levi, Olivia, Cynthia, Patrick, and Avery, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his mother Georgette and father Peter.
A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in March 2025 with a date yet to be announced.
