Nona Elizabeth Fransen (nee Angus) was born to Stanley and Jean Angus on March 29, 1929, in Trail, BC. Nona was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband (Len) and daughter (Susan). Nona passed away peacefully at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
After high school, Nona studied at the Henderson Secretarial College in Vancouver, BC. She was married in 1953, and they were married for 57 years, before Len’s passing in 2010. Nona and her family moved to Kimberley, BC in 1966. Nona was an avid skier and spent most of her time at the ski hill in the winter. She started the Guest Guide Program which is now known as Snow Hosts. During the summer months you could find Nona on the golf course. This past summer she was named as an Honorary Ladies Member during the Kimberley Golf Course 100-year Anniversary. Nona had a love for Kimberley, and it showed through her years of community service and volunteerism.
Nona will be deeply missed by her daughter Patricia Jaggard (Terry Guitard) of Calgary, AB, son Carl Fransen (DeeDee) of Calgary, AB, and her grandchildren - Michael Jaggard, Jenny Guitard, Jessica and William Lamb, and Taryn Fransen.
Nona moved to Garden View Village in September of 2008, making her one of the longest residents to date. For many years she was an ambassador and would welcome new residents to the building and the community of Kimberley. Nona’s family would like to thank Garden View staff and residents for many years of good living. The family would also like to thank Nona’s family doctor, care team, and staff at the Kimberley Medical Clinic for the exceptional care she was provided over the years.
There will be a casual gathering to celebrate Nona’s life on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Kimberley Alpine Resort. Details will be shared on her granddaughter Jessica’s Facebook page closer to the date.
