Obituary of Maria Nina Gaschen

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maria "Nina" Gaschen, a beloved resident of Kimberley, BC, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, at the Kimberley Special Care Home (Pines), with her devoted husband Roland by her side after a long battle with dementia. Nina was born in Schlanders, South Tyrol, Italy, in 1935. Her family moved to Germany in 1939, where she spent her formative years and attended school. As a young woman, Nina relocated to Switzerland, where she married her first husband and became a Swiss citizen. Together, they welcomed two sons, Louis and Martin Moser. Following the end of her first marriage, Nina found love again with Roland Gaschen. In 1982, the couple made the courageous decision to start a new chapter in Canada, eventually making their home in the heart of Kimberley, BC.

Nina's life was marked by her warmth, resilience, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. She leaves behind her cherished husband Roland, her beloved sons Louis and Martin Moser, her sister Trudy Nialson, her brother Joseph "Pepi" Kurz, and her sister Hanni Wöhlen. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever remember her kindness and generosity.

Nina's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, especially in the vibrant beauty of Nina's Hillside Garden—a paradise she and Roland lovingly built together in Kimberley, BC.

A celebration of Nina's life will be held on November 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Kimberley Alpine Resort Conference Centre Ballroom. There will be an opportunity at the service to share a memory or story about Nina in an open forum. The family warmly invites you to participate, as your words will bring comfort during this time. All who knew and loved Nina are welcome to join in honoring her remarkable journey.
