Obituary of Donald Diesing
Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We say a tearful goodbye to Don Diesing, loving father and husband, who passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80 on October 16, 2024.
Don was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on August 5, 1944 to Mary and August Diesing, and was the youngest sibling of 11 brothers and sisters. His early years were spent on the family farm, and the love of the land never really left him. When he got the chance to have his own acreage again, he happily took it. He could often be spotted making his way down to the coop and paddock with water for the pony and feed for the birds, with a parade of assorted dogs, cats, chickens and ducks following closely behind, or visiting over the fence with the neighbour’s cows. The land could be a lot of work, but he found great joy in being there.
Don was a man of few words, but with a good sense of humor and loved a good joke. He was supportive and helpful to his family, and promises made, such as the one involving the pony that made an appearance in his daughter’s lives shortly after the move to the homestead, were kept.
Don loved the outdoors, taking the family on hunting and camping trips, going fishing and golfing. Winters he would often take his daughters out with him to a nearby frozen lake, where he would ice fish while the girls happily skated, and the morning would end with cookies and hot chocolate. He would take the family out on road trips, either destination such as the local hot springs, or just for a drive. He enjoyed country music, both to listen to and to play on his guitar, the latter a skill that was self taught. He loved to learn, loved watching documentaries, and made his own beer and wine, keeping meticulous notes and was always trying to improve his brews. In his quiet moments, he loved to read.
Don leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Laurianna, daughters Kim and Jodi (Mick), granddaughter Mackenzie, his last surviving brother Mervin, and MIL Lucille MacLellan and many nieces and nephews.
Don was a good man, husband, father and Papa, and will be dearly missed.
