Obituary of Rosamund Rita Smith

Please share a memory of Rosamund to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Rose, on September 16th.

Rose was born in Ebbw Vale, Wales to Stanley and Kay Gomm. When she was a little girl they moved to London and her sister Susan was born thereafter. When Rose was a teenager she and her family moved to Helsby, Cheshire and soon after she got a job working for Boots drug store in Chester.

In 1969 mum went to Spain with her family for a holiday and this is where she met her beloved John. Upon their return to England they endured a long distance romance until they married in July 1970. At this point mum went to live in Jacksdale Notts with dad. They welcomed their first born Paula into the world in August 1971.

In 1973 they traveled to visit John's sister Ann in Alberta. They loved Canada so much that they packed up their things and moved to Edmonton in February 1974. John then got a job working for Coleman Colliers so they moved to Coleman in spring 1974. In May 1976 they welcomed their son Paul into the world. They moved 2 more times- 1979 to Sparwood and 1993 to Wasa.

Rose was a loyal and devoted housewife who enjoyed providing for her family. She always put everyone else's needs first. She baked and cooked many amazing meals for us and provided a home that always felt safe, warm and cozy.  In her spare time she painted landscape and still life paintings, crocheted and did puzzles.

Mum loved nature: flowers, birds, cats and dogs. I cannot remember a time without a garden full of vegetables and flowers. We always had cats, dogs and the occasional budgie.

In her second half of life Rose helped John with their home business Country Woodsmith. She did the bookkeeping and helped with sales and construction. She also worked in retail at Sonya's China Cabinet and Giant Tiger in Cranbrook.

Over the years she has volunteered her time as a teachers aide, kitchen help for Lions Club charities, librarian for Wasa library and sat on the board for Wasa Recreation Society. Rose was known as a kind and loving person. She has made many friends over the years.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor on Saturday October 5th from 11am to 2pm at the Wasa Community Hall.

At 1:00 we will have both Rose and John Smith's ashes interred at the Wasa Memorial Garden columbarium. Her beloved John passed away 2 years ago and it was their wish to have both their ashes bestowed to the columbarium in Wasa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wasa Lions Club.

Until we meet again, mumsie.  We love you so very much!
