Obituary of Ghislain Jacques Bérubé

Please share a memory of Ghislain to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jack was born at home on the family farm at Lac des Aigles, Quebec, to Jeanne d’Arc Robichaud and Jules-Henri Bérubé, the second of seven children.

After he finished with high school Jack traded in his textbook for a pulp hook and went to work with his father.  By 1970 he had begun to make his way out West, eventually settling in the East Kootenay, specifically Canal Flats.  Here he met his wife Carol, and started their family.

Beginning his career as a faller, by 1980 he had formed his own company G. Bérubé Enterprises Ltd. which grew over the next few years to employ many hardworking individuals.

Jack and his family moved to Wardner, BC in 1989 where he could access many more opportunities for work.  His work evolved to specializing in environmentally friendly practices which included ecosystem restoration on private land and for BC Parks.  He took great pride in his work and expected nothing less from his crew.  Jack’s work ethic never wavered and there is no doubt that he would still be working in the bush today if he could be.

Over the years Jack’s reputation in the industry and among the outdoor community as a fair boss and a trustworthy contractor grew along with his business.

When he was not working, Jack spent his time with his family enjoying the outdoors hunting, fishing, horseback riding and traveling to Quebec to visit family.

Jack was predeceased by his parents (Jeanne d’Arc and Jules-Henri Bérubé) and his brother (Christian Bérubé).

Jack is survived by his wife Carol Bérubé, his children Daniel Bérubé, Christopher Bérubé (Dani) and Geneviève Walker (Ben), as well as his four beautiful granddaughters, Robyn and Renée Bérubé and Evelyn and Charlotte Walker.

He is also survived by his siblings, Lawrence (Pauline), Jacinthe (Pierre), Ryno, Lynda and Francis (Sylvie) as well as his brothers and sisters in-law Alan (Alison), Colin (Cathy), Debbie (Bob) and Marion (Chris) as well as many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all of Jack’s good friends for all the laughter and good stories that we will remember for many years to come.

We would also like to thank all the caregivers who we appreciate so much.

A celebration of life for Jack will take place on Friday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at McPherson Funeral Home, with a reception to follow.
