With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William “Marty” Martin on May 12, 2024, in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Bill was an exceptional athlete who enjoyed many different sports including hockey, baseball and golf. Some of his accomplishments included holding the record for most goals ever scored in the Western International Hockey League, hitting home runs through windows in his mom and dad’s house.
He played for a few hockey teams in his career, including the Rossland Warriors, Trail Smoke eaters, Edmonton Monarchs and the Cranbrook Royals. He was also offered a pro contract with the New York Rangers.
Bill is survived by his children Sherri (Tim), Nadene and Brad (Delanie), Grandchildren Kayleigh (Ryland), Dayton, Tianna, Sarah, Taryn, Chris (Rachel) and Justin, One great granddaughter Odessa, special niece Ashley, sister MaryAnne (Ken) their children Taunya (Mike), ChristieAnne (Russell), Brother Rob (Joanne) their child Melissa (Cody), as well as many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Marian, parents William and Mildred Martin , brother Donald, sister HelenMae Grieve, in-laws Ethel and Roland and Doreen Migneault and many friends and teammates.
A Service in Bill’s memory and honour will be held on Sunday, May 26 from 1pm-4pm at the Cranbrook Golf Course.
