Please share a memory of Marilynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Kay Amundson announce her passing after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Kay was a loving mother to four beautiful daughters: Dawne, Laura, Marlene, and Alva, of whom she was blessed with through her marriage of 49 years with Alvin Amundson. She was a grandmother to 11, and a great grandmother to 12. She had no shortage of love and support for each and everyone of her family.

Kay was larger than life. Any who knew her can attest to her vibrant personality, witty sense of humour, enormous heart, unapologetic confidence, and fearless self expression. She had a drive for adventure and didn’t like to stay in one place too long. With having family all over BC and Alberta, she’d usually hit the road for a visit, which was one of her favorite things to do. Some of her passions included curling, hockey, and baseball. She spent many hours bonding with her family through spectating and cheering for their favorite teams and players.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed waterskiing with her girls, curling, rodeos, chuckwagon races, stock car races, car shows, golfing, fishing trips, and camping with the grandkids.

Kay was the glue that held her family together. She took her role as a cheerleader very seriously and rarely missed a game, recital, tournament, meet, match, or concert. She lived for cheering on her family. She was also a well of wisdom and source of strength and courage for everyone who she loved. Kay had many friends whom she adored dearly. She always looked forward to her visits with them over black cups of coffee, lunches at The Cottage, outings, road trips, and the time she spent with each of them. Even if it just was to “see what trouble we could find.”

Professionally, Kay had many pursuits, and at the core of each one, she was driven to provide excellent service and valuable knowledge to those she served. She worked for Falkins Insurance Company/ Western Financial Group for 33 years where she became close to many of her teammates, and she truly loved her clients. After retirement, Kay loved spending time with her family. She always showed up for anyone who needed a babysitter, house sitter, a baking lesson, a canning lesson, a co-pilot, a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on or just an ear. Because of this, she will be missed beyond words.

“Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.” – C.S. Lewis

Kay is Survived by her sister Lynn (Terry), brother Boyd (Deb), daughters Dawne (Alex), Laura (Mike), Marlene (Robert), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her parents James and Opal Wilson, Sister Beverly Godberson (Wilson), Husband Alvin Amundson, and beloved daughter Alva Somogyvari.

At Kay’s request, there will be no funeral but if you find yourself at the beach or on the shore think of Kay as you are in one of her favorite places.
