It's Memorial Day once again, and not even this day can pass without me remembering and thinking of you. It was a beautiful day here in California. Had a little rain this morning, but the sun was out brightly this afternoon. It was a nice day to quietly reflect and remember all of those who served in our armed forces, and continue to serve, and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for America. It was a beautiful day and the perfect day to go horseback riding, which I did. Have a beautiful Arabian mare now and enjoy spending time riding out in the country, or what is left of our back country. Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you today.

The stars always seem to shine brighter in a winter sky. Remembering the incredible person you were, your unique and special personality, your spirit and your determination to live and realize your dreams...these are the things I think about when I look up into a star-filled sky even after all these years. The world changed for me when you left San Diego and settled in the Pacific Northwest, and I know the world changed for you. I will always be very happy for all of your success and proud of you too. You were a very special person and always will be to me, and to all those who knew and loved you too. Rest in Peace my very special Jim.

Thinking of you and wanted to thank you for sharing the beauty of the Canadian Rockies, the City of Vancouver and Cranbrook with me when I visited you in the summer of 1968, which now seems like "forever ago". Thank you for everything, but especially thank you for just being you. Love and miss you and will forever.

We are having winter here in San Diego....rain, winds and snow in our local mountains....kind of like in the Pacific Northwest and in Canada. Lots of stars in the winter sky....each star is like a memory and a reminder of our friendship and our love for you. Memories of you remain in my heart and always will.

I continue to celebrate your life through the wonderful memories that live within my heart. I can almost hear your voice on these cold, wintery nights as I look at the stars, and I can see your face as I look into the flame of a flickering candle. You are missed more than words can ever say.

It is almost the end of another year (2015). I think you would be happy to know that San Diego has another hockey team. The "Gulls" of the American Hockey League (the farm team to the Anaheim Ducks). Still miss you, and always will.

Jim,
I wish you were still here so I could call you. I wanted to find you and found out today that you are not longer with us.
I believe that you and Becker were the smartest people ever in the restaurant business. I worked for you as a Hostess at Chapter II, in Yakima, WA, and remember telling people there was a 2 hour wait, and they did not complain, and did not mind the wait! Your Chapter Eleven was the best!
You had your waiters share their tips in a special envelope with the busboys and the hostess, and the cooks, which was a wonderful idea, and made everyone work better as a team.
I miss you and our friendship.
Love, Donna

Still miss the incredible excitement of those great hockey games in San Diego at the Sports Arena many years ago. It was never the same after you left San Diego for Spokane, but understand your calling to get into the restaurant business. It's almost 2013...we all wish you were still here. Just glad to have known and loved you.

Dear Jim - It's December 2012 and it's "hockey season" in San Diego, but San Diego no longer has a hockey team. Just wish we could turn back the clock to 1967 - 1971. Miss you more than you'll ever know my friend. Memories are very powerful things, and they stay with us forever. Loved you then, now and always will.

A smile, a glance...you looked my way,
Here in California, I hoped you'd stay.
The Pacific Northwest called your name,
Restaurants and Thoroughbreds brought you fame.
A man with visions of new things, new trends,
Who will live forever in the hearts of his friends.

I knew Jim when he played hockey for the San Diego Gulls from 1968 until 1972. I loved him...what can I say! We all did. Jim traveled to the beat of his own drum, and all of us who knew and loved him admired him for his independence, sense of humor and intelligence. What a great business man he turned out to be as well. I am extremely proud of his accomplishments and I will never forget him. Thank you Jim, for the wonderful memories. May you rest in peace my friend.

I remember Jim, and was one of the ones who "loved him", I worked at Chapter Eleven on Mission for nearly 10 years. My late husband Neil Lindsey helped build each restaurant as they expanded. It was a time of great friendships, hard work, and a lot of fun. We had times at the ranch in Yakima I will never forget. Horse races at Playfair, etc. Those were the days. We've lost too many dear ones, and miss them all; but know they are all safe in God's perfect memory.

I met Jim in the Tri-Cities with my then to be husband, Jeff Enders who started at Chapter on Mission. Boy what an intro I got...to know him was to love him or hate him...Jeff loved him...he spoke often of the various memories and between Jim Eagle and Jim Becker...Jeff learned much and considered them to be friends and his educators in the culinary field. I only wish I could have been there for some of the stories..or maybe not:)
Jim tell my sweetie hello for Patrick & I...and God Bless.

Jim gave me my first "break" when I started my art business in Spokane. The business was not making enough to support my family and he gave me a night bartending job (so I could work the gallery in the day) at the 1st Edition even though I'd never poured a drink in my life (but had downed many) As hardnose as Jim could be in business, he was extremely loyal to his friends as I had absolutely no clue of what I was doing. But he bet on me as a person, not experience, and it worked out for both of us. During the 12 months that I worked for Jim he purchased many Leroy Neiman horse racing serigraphs from me which also helped my business stay afloat. Because of Jim, I was able to make it through the first year, move to Seattle, and ultimately grew the business enough to sell to a public company. Cliche as it sounds, one either loved him or hated him-me, i loved the dude-he always treated me with the utmost respect.. I can still hear him yelling at me -"hey winner, get you ass over here and let's talk". I'm ashamed to say we lost touch,-no other reason than different lives and cities. but i've always remembered Jim fondly and with gratitude., and always will. Peace to you, Jim.

I played on the same midget hockey team as Jim, I was the 5th or 6th defenseman while Jim was one or two. Chapter Eleven was ahead of its time and my wife Barb & I
many enjoyable meals at the two locations in Spokane, When Jim moved to Cranbrook he became a client of mine until a retired in 2009. I enjoyed his visits to my office where he would talk about life business( he always had a project in mind and wanted
to bounce some ideas off me) and of course hockey. I should mention that when we
were in high school I would pass Jim coming up to Kimberley to take out a Kimberley
girl and I was heading down to Cranbrook to take out a Cranbrook girl.Friends shouldn't pass on so young.

I worked for Jim( birdman) Eagle and Jim Becker(lobster) initially at their first expansion restaurant, Chapter X1 First Edition in the Spokane valley and then at the original in Spokane on Mission.I would go on to manage their next effort,Sherman Street South(who they partnered with Jim Flaherty) in Spokane and witnessed a statewide expansion like no other.Eagle and Becker launched a new era in the restaurant business in Spokane and Washinton state featuring prime rib, steaks and seafood with great salad bars.A colossal success. To know Jim was to love him(you know what I mean) and I loved him like a brother.Great memories forever cheriished.(Some belong in Riipleys)RIP my friend.
