Obituary of Patsy Grace Spocchi

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patsy (Pat) Grace Spocchi.  Pat was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece and friend.  She passed away peacefully November 20, 2023 at the age of 71 with her loving husband Rene by her side. 

Pat left us far too soon and though we were blessed to be touched by her love and friendship, the imprint she left on our hearts far exceeds the time that she was with us. 

Pat was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan to parents John and Stella McDermid.  Her younger years were spent growing up in Armit, Saskatchewan surrounded by siblings, cousins and other childhood friends and family with lots of outdoor activities.  She was part of a large family and it brought her such joy to reminisce about childhood memories growing up with her older sisters Peggy and Ilene and younger siblings Ron and Judy.  She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh and tell stories. 

In her older teens, Pat moved from Armit to Invermere BC, where Ilene lived at the time, to pursue employment.  This is where she met Rene, the love of her life and husband of 52 years.  Shortly after marrying, they moved to an acreage and with work and dedication, made it into the beautiful property and loving home it is today.  It is there that they raised two children together - Tania and Dean.  Pat’s four grandchildren - Emma, Holly, Morgan, and Hunter were her pride and joy.  She absolutely loved being a grandma and there was rarely a day that went by that she didn’t speak proudly and boast about all four of her beautiful grandbabies.

Lovingly referred to by some as “Gramma Pat”, she loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals & baking for her friends and family.  Her door was always open and she made everyone feel welcome.

 Pat was an amazing listener that loved company, and there are many that have fond memories of the countless hours spent sitting on her patio, kitchen, or living room and laughing and talking for hours.

She had a love of gardening and the outdoors from an early age that carried on throughout her entire life.  Every year she planted a big garden, from which she was always willing to share.  Pat loved animals and in addition to the family pets, over the years raised cows, horses, pigs, ducks, and chickens and an abandoned baby deer.  She loved going for drives in the mountains and spent time fishing, camping and hiking in her younger years.   One of her favourite activities was searching for wild mushrooms. 

Pat was kind and generous and brought love, light and laughter to all that knew her.  Rest in peace Pat, you are loved and forever in our hearts and memories.

Pat is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Rene, son Dean (Sarah) Spocchi, daughter Tania (Wes) Nygaard-Peterson, grandchildren Emma, Holly, Morgan and Hunter, sister Peggy (Ron) Trafford, brother Ronald (Tia) McDermid, sister Judy McDermid, nieces and nephews Barry, Chrystal, Lorlie, Merlin, Kyle, Katie and Jordan. 

Pat was predeceased by her parents John and Stella McDermid and her sister Ilene Kachkowski.

A celebration of life will be organized by family & friends sometime in the new year.  Details will be shared when they are finalized.
