1920 - 2011
After a lengthy illness, Gerald passed away peacefully on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the age of 91 years at Joseph Creek Village in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Gerald was born in Fisherton, Manitoba in 1920. He was one of 13 children. He joined the army in 1942 and proudly served with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in WWII throughout the Netherlands and Germany. Gerald returned to Winnipeg after the war and lived there until 1965 when he moved to Vancouver followed by Kelowna and Cranbrook. He loved fishing, hunting, camping trips and square dancing. He liked to do woodworking and presented many of his friends and relatives with gifts of his own creation. In the 1990's he returned to Europe on two occasions to honour his fallen comrades at Appledorn and to visit the countries which he helped to liberate.
Gerald is survived by Anna, his loving wife of 69 years, his two sons, Larry (Gail) of Cranbrook and Allan of Calgary, three sisters Phyllis Eastcott, Bertie Muzyka and Shirley Letexier as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed.
