Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob at age 78 at the F.W. Green Home in Cranbrook, BC. Bob is now at peace after battling dementia for many years. He passed away comfortably with family by his side.
Bob was born in Kimberley, BC to Eva and Sebastian Flegel. At 11 years old, Bob’s family moved to Salmo, BC where he graduated from high school and started work for the H.B. Mine in Salmo. During his time in Salmo he would frequently spend time in Kelowna with friends and this is where Bob met the love of his life, Ann (Ernestina Johanna Lanzinger). Bob and Ann were married in 1968. Shortly after Bob transferred to the Benson Lake mine on Vancouver Island and finished his mining career at the Fording River mine in Elkford, BC. where he worked for over 35 years. Bob was instrumental in developing the Industrial Journeyman warehousing program for mining across British Columbia.
Bob loved spending time outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom picking and dirt biking with his kids. In later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Ann of 55 years, son Mark (Penny) Flegel, daughter Tanya (Tyler) Kenke, four grandchildren, Savannah, Chase, Sydney and Ella. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marg, Susan (Mathew) and three brothers, Ken (Mary), Don, David and many loving nieces and nephews who still remember the stories of the money tree in Bob’s backyard.
Bob was predeceased by his mom, Eva and father, Sebastian.
At this time there will be no formal service. A family celebration will be held at a future date.
