Kirk and I were neighbors from middle school through high school. A talented musician, Kirk would often come over to our house and ad lib various musical melodies on our piano. He'd play a few bars, chuckle, then play a few more. My mom was very impressed. Some of the lines from the Doors songs always make me think of Kirk as he would sorta sing them often "they got the guns while we got the numbers...."
Kirk did not seem to worry to much about rules or getting into trouble. There was a large enclosed storm drain near his house that led up to the junior high. He talked me and a couple other guys into taking the drain pipe to school, so we did. He even road his bike and skateboard in the pipe. It lasted a couple weeks until my mom put the kabash on the whole idea, but it was fun while it lasted.
On one occasion, Kirk and I watched the first man set foot on the moon, while his mom and dad were out somewhere. We got plastered as we took a lit bit of booze out of each bottle (so nobody would notice) and mixed it into a soda bottle. He called it a torpedo and it did the trick. I think he got in a little bit of trouble, but I remember Kirk saying how his dad smelled the alcohol on his breath and that it made his dad thirsty.
On another occasion, Kirk talked me into hanging heels off a drain pipe that stuck out over the top of a cliff with a 100 foot drop. Not the smartest thing I ever did. He brought this up almost 60 years later, as a remarkable event, when we hooked up recently. He still had that great carefree\infectious laugh he had when he was younger, though not as sharp and frequent. I was waiting to hear that laugh and the story of hanging heels over the drain pipe brought it out.
It was great to see Kirk a couple years back (2017). He drove two hours from his mom's place in Napa to see me. We biked the American River trail in Folsom, caught up on everything, commiserated on politics, and he spent the night.
Bike riding and over-the-line baseball were a staple growing up. Knowing Kirk is to never forget him. He was unique in a lot of ways. Enclosed are a couple pics I was able to dig up.

Kirk was a gem. What a fun loving human being - his presence will always be missed. He showed love and kindness through giving gifts doing things for people and he made me my first mixtape of all of his favorite bands, most of which I hadn't really listened to before - I still listen to those mixed tapes and I think of him often. He was full of love and life that spread to the rest of our family and we will cherish him forever.

I met Kirk over 50 years ago in High School 1966. So many great memories of growing up together. Exploring the world and the environment around us. Kirk was always an easy going person, even tempered. Super sense of humor. We had many fun days at Hermosa Beach on the weekends and the summertime. we went to lots of Music Concerts and fun dances. Kirk had all the girls after him. Kirk made people feel at ease around him. He was simply the Best. He will always be missed.

Out of the 50 years of memories I had with my brother-in-law, our camping trip to the Outer Banks was one of the best. Kirk was always ready for any adventure and enriched every experience with his curiosity and good humor. His ability to keep going in the face of physical challenges was an inspiration to us all.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were with Uncle Kirk. Riding in his Ford truck with the red leather in the backseat listening to the Beach Boys on cassette tape. So many great memories camping in South Carolina and laughing with him while listening to all kinds of music. At Christmas time, he would let us be silly and he would play and rewind all of the funny parts of Home Alone on VHS tape and he’d laugh with us every single time. He took me on an incredible bikeride along the Tennessee River once. He had so much energy and a true zest for nature and life. I could always count on him anything. I’ll miss getting texts from him with pictures of his adventures. I wish I could hear another joke from him just one more time. I’ll miss Uncle Kirk dearly.

I met Kirk in California many years ago while working with his wife Lynn at a plant nursery. We all became life long friends and I always enjoyed being with him and Lynn. Kirk was the person who first took me to Yosemite National Park, I remember that trip fondly. I have been working on a research project in that park for 22 years now and always think of Kirk when I am in that great park. He loved taking hikes and talking about what he saw, he had great curiosity of all natural things. Kirk always smiled and enjoyed people. I will miss him a great deal.

I will never forget the fun times I had with Kirk hiking and exploring. Kirk introduced me to how great the wilderness can be, and some of the greatest memories of the outdoors are still vivid in my mind. I will truly miss Kirk.

I will always remember hearing your dad in the background talking away with your kids as we talked on the phone. He was always so present and engaged with them. It warmed my heart to hear.
Your dad was a great man and grandfather.

I will never forget Kirk telling the story about when he went to the grocery store after a nap, forgetting Layla had put a bunch of barrettes in his hair. I still laugh about that when I think about him perusing Bi-Lo wondering why everyone was looking at him funny.

Just found out. We spoke on the phone, seems like just the other day. He was excitedly planning for a family trip to Florida, I believe. Will miss our chats,
