Obituary of Mary Andersen

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mary Andersen passed away on July 3rd of cancer. She passed away peacefully at the age of 74, surrounded by family.

 

Mary was born on March 1st, 1949, in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. She moved from Marengo, Saskatchewan in 1960 with her parents and siblings to Stony Plain, Alberta. She is survived by her three children, Tina Andersen (Stefan Eckert), Kim Tavares (Joe), and their children Makayla and Jacob, Troy Andersen, and his son Kolby Keast. 

 

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Nancy and James Sullivan, and three brothers, Greg, Paul, and Phil. She has three surviving sisters Kathy Rieberger, Rose Anne Sullivan, and Loretta Simpson. Two surviving brothers, John Sullivan (Kay Platka) and Rod Sullivan (Sandi), and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 

In her lifetime, she has had several careers and lived in many small towns. Mary was always very reserved, quiet and had a caring, compassionate nature. She showed empathy to those that needed it. She had an infectious smile and a laugh, which could brighten up any room.

 

Mary moved to Kimberley, British Columbia, to help care for her elderly mother. After her mother passed, she moved to Valleyview Lodge in Marysville, BC. She loved reading and music. She especially enjoyed having coffee, games, and puzzle days with her friends at the lodge.

 

She will be missed, as she was there for so many people whom she listened to and had a ready shoulder to cry on. She touched many hearts as a mother, sister, and friend to many. Mary requested no funeral; we will spread her ashes according to her wishes. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mary’s name.

 

Our family would like to thank everyone who supported our mother and went out of their way to help her this last year on her final journey. To those who reached out to let her know how much she would be missed, it meant the world to her. Our mom will always be in our hearts in the special bond that mothers have with their children. Please feel free to share your memories of our mom.
