Gerald Eugene Fenner

January 21, 1942 – May 18, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Gerald Eugene Fenner “Jerry” of Fort Steele, BC. Jerry was born in Denver, Colorado U.S.A., on January 21, 1942; the 4^th child of 7. His mother, Lila Fenner took her family and embarked on a journey that took them from Denver to Canada, where Jerry spent his formative years growing up on the picturesque shores of the Shuswap and later the Arrow Lakes, in the West Kootenays. When his family moved into Castlegar, this is where Jerry met and married his wife Roberta (Bobbie) of 61 years. Together, they raised three children Lee, Shana, and Shawn (Heather), and was proud of his 4 grandchildren Lauren Aikman, Hannah Fenner, Maya Fenner, and Garrett Fenner.

While raising his children, Jerry pursued his passion for knowledge and successfully completed his first-class power engineering certification. This accomplishment served as a testament to his unwavering commitment to self-improvement and his ability to balance family responsibilities with personal aspirations.

Jerry’s career path led him to Crestbrook Forest Industries, located in Skookumchuk, BC, where his expertise and dedication propelled him to the position of mill manager. Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, he furthered his education at the prestigious Banff School of Advanced Management. His dedication and perseverance paid off as he achieved distinction upon completion of the course, a testament to his intellectual capabilities and thirst for knowledge.

Jerry's illustrious career brought him to Athabasca, Alberta, where he was fortunate to steward the construction project from concept to completion  which was Alberta Pacific Forest Industries in the heart of the untouched boreal forest. Embracing his role as the Senior Vice President and General Manager, of a world-class kraft pulp mill, Jerry left an indelible mark on the industry. His legacy continues to inspire future generations to pursue their dreams fearlessly, to build bridges that connect hearts, and to embrace the power of friendship.

While facing leukemia over the past 6 years, Jerry's unwavering faith ensured that his days were defined by courage, resilience, and a determination to live life to the fullest. Jerry had a profound connection to the majestic mountains that surrounded him. For him, the mountains were more than just a geographical wonder; they were a sanctuary where he found solace, joy, and a spiritual connection. His love for the mountains was deeply intertwined with his cherished moments spent with his beloved wife, Roberta, and their family.

Jerry's passion for horses was a cornerstone of his life and many referred to him as the “horse whisperer”. Whether it was the thrill of riding across open fields or the serenity of traversing mountain trails, Jerry found a sense of freedom and tranquility in the company of horses. He built a life surrounded by family and friends who shared his love for horses, forging lasting connections with those who understood and embraced the beauty of these noble animals.

Jerry's unwavering faith, rooted in a life dedicated to his beliefs, served as an unwavering source of strength and guidance that sustained him through these past 5 years living with leukemia. With his faith as his anchor, Jerry faced each day with unwavering resolve, embracing life with courage, resilience, and an unyielding determination to make every moment count. The Lord's divine guidance continuously shaped and illuminated Jerry's path, providing a steadfast compass that guided his actions and decisions throughout his remarkable journey.

A celebration of life will be held for Jerry, at his family home: Spindrift Ranch, at 2987 Wardner-Fort Steele Road, on May 28^th at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor his memory, share stories, and find solace in the collective embrace of love and support.
