Obituary of Anne Elizabeth Smith
Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Smith of Kimberley, B.C., passed away peacefully on January 2nd at The Pines/Kimberley Special Care Home. She was 95 years old.
She is deeply missed by her three daughters, Suzanne (Robert), Catherine (Gord), and Nancy (Susan), and by granddaughters Brooke (Daryl) and Chelsea (Blake).
Anne was born in Port Hope, Ont., on September 11, 1927, the only child of Joseph and Margaret Orchard. In 1951 Anne met RCAF Flight Lieutenant Keith N. Smith of Barrie, Ont. They married in 1952.
As a career military officer Keith was transferred frequently. The Smith family lived in numerous towns and cities, including Tacoma, Wash., North Bay, Ont., Santa Monica, Calif., and Duluth, Minn. The radar station at St. Margarets, N.B., was a particular favourite, as she was central to the social life there. Anne always mentioned that she loved military life and the moves to the various interesting places. She met many people who became lifelong friends, and often reconnected with families she met during earlier postings.
She and Keith retired in 1973 and returned to Barrie. Anne survived him by 33 years.
Anne will be remembered as fun-loving and young at heart. She loved social occasions, loved music and dancing, and was a fantastic host and cook. She was well known for her sophisticated sense of style and is remembered for her generosity to family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Buddo and the staff at both Garden View and The Pines. The care they have given our mother over the past number of years has been exceptional, supportive, kind, and loving.
