Gloria (Lolly) Hockley
1931- 2022
With full hearts, the Hockley Family announces the passing of Lolly Hockley (nee Fontana) on Christmas Eve in Cranbrook, with her family by her side.
Mom is survived by her loving children Dennis (Aldie) Hockley, Louise (Lorne) Derkach, Debra (Ron) Omelusik, Myrna (Lorne ✝️) Bailey, Sharon (Al) Nuspl, and Kevin (Lori) Hockley, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren whom she loved each and every one.
Gloria was born on March 30, 1931 in Michel, BC. to Vittoria and Domenico Fontana. Her brothers and sisters, Betty, Popeye, Ticky, Jackie, Lou, and PeeWee all preceded Mom to heaven.
Grandma loved to recount stories from her life. She would light up when talking about the day the love of her life walked into the coffee shop in Fernie where she was working, and announced after seeing her for the first time, that he would marry her. This was the beginning of 66 years that Bob and Lolly shared together before he passed in 2016.
Lolly served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church as sacristan for over 25 years. She was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord and her prayer time.
She eagerly looked forward to summers at Rosen Lake, surrounded by her extensive family. Grandma was known for her love of life and wanted to join all activities with us especially playing cards.
The life she lived was one of connection and love. She thrived on being together with her family and friends. Mom always said that children were a blessing and family was what really mattered. Although our hearts are aching, we are overjoyed that she is reunited in heaven with her family and beloved Bob.
Come honor her memory and celebrate a life well-lived on Wednesday, January 4th at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cranbrook, BC.
Memorial Donations in Gloria’s (Lolly) name can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation to 686 W Broadway Suite 150, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1G1.
