Audrey Aileen Orzeck

 

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Audrey Aileen Orzeck at the age of 90 years. Audrey passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family in Kimberly, BC. Audrey was born August 4, 1932 to Clifford and Helen Boyle in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Audrey has fond memories of growing up in the Canadian prairies, as well as her teenage years attending private school in Washington, DC. Her family later settled in Toronto, Ontario in 1949. 

Audrey was a proud Registered Nurse graduating from Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital in 1954. She started her nursing career after moving to Marathon, Ontario. Audrey enjoyed playing competitive field hockey as a young girl, later taking interest in curling, golfing and various winter activities. Participating in many tournaments and winning club championships. Audrey enjoyed camping, social gatherings and playing games with many close friends.

Audrey met Zig her beloved husband of 66 years after moving to Marathon, Ontario. Together they raised their three boys Stephen, Peter and Terry. Audrey had a love for the water, where many family vacations were spent in Southern Ontario, at various cottages.

After 40 years in Marathon Audrey and Zig retired to Pilot Bay at Kootenay Lake, BC and spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona and Qualicum Beach, on Vancouver Island. It was at Kootenay Lake that Audrey shared the most precious memories with her children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors. It was a place that holds the most unforgettable memories and yearly birthday celebrations on the August long weekend. Family and friends would gather to enjoy happy hours, rum cake, Skor pie and her famous peanut butter cookies.

Audrey loved to play cards and board games, a love she shared with her family and grandchildren. Her grandchildren often commented “Its cut throat cards at Grandmas”. Audrey loved to play bridge with whoever was up for the challenge, and was always keen to play. Audrey loved to read, complete puzzles, bake and share her love for gardening.

All of us that loved her are thankful for the knitted stockings, sweaters, scarfs and blankets. A craft Audrey loved to do until her passing.

Audrey leaves behind her beloved husband Zig, sons Stephen (Patricia), Peter (Leigh-Anne) and Terry (Melba). Her beloved grandchildren, Breanne (Greg), Lauren (Joel), Zachary (Caitlind) & Nolan (Brook) and her great- grandchildren (Nora, Hunter & Cullen). She also leaves behind her two younger brothers Terry (Michele), Donald (Norma) and their families.

Audrey’s request, a celebration of life will occur at a later date. To those who were touched by Audrey, please join us in raising a glass and sharing a toast to her beautiful life.

A special thank you to all the wonderful staff at Garden View Village in Kimberly. Cremation has taken place at McPhersons Funeral Services in Cranbrook, BC.
