I was very saddened to learn of Mary’s passing. I met Mary when she called me a few years ago trying to search out information about her birth father. I was shocked to learn that her birth father was also the father of my deceased husband, Jay Heseltine. In listening to Mary’s story, I learned about her past and her quest as an adopted child to discover details of her birth parents. I told her about her step-brother, Jay, who would have been so happy to meet her but he had unfortunately passed away in 2012. His brother, her second step-brother, Terry, had also passed away but she still had a step-sister, Shell. I had a few telephone conversations with Mary, and Mary and Shell did connect and communicate with each other as well. I was able to meet Mary in person in 2015 on my way through Cranbrook as I was moving from BC to Ontario, and we laughed when we met as we were wearing virtually identical tops. Mary took me back to her farm and showed me more of her life, and we had a lovely visit. I wish I could have spent more time personally with Mary, I found her to be a very kind and gentle soul and I do hope that her spirit is able to connect with her half-brother Jay in heaven to comfort each other.
