I met Kevin in the early 90s when he was drilling for Morgan in Saskatchewan. I was at Murphy and he graciously offered to share his experience in drilling heavy oil horizontals, an expanding skill at the time, and I spent a week onsite with him. He was a wide open, enthusiastic, go-getter who was excited about doing his job faster and cheaper, critical when heavy oil sometimes sold at Hardisty below $5! For years afterwards I would try and get over to wherever his rig was and lose money to him at cribbage, or meet him at the 400 Club for a catchup. Always remember his phone message about alligators and swamps. Rest in Peace, Kevin.

When I first found out I was ANGRY! Angry he works so hard away from his family to achieve a life he didn’t get to enjoy … He lite up from the inside when ever he talked about his kids and beamed when asked about the portrait he hung in his shack and art one of the kids had done sorry I don’t remember names … I worked for Kevin for about 18 years .we hit it off the first time we met as we both had a very very dry sense of humor … the first time I had to deliver something for him 4 hours north of Fort St. John BC from Edmonton he must have called every couple hours to see where I was I would tell him exactly where I was and wait for the next call .. the last call before cell service got crappy I was about 2 hours away . Well it took just over 4 hours to get their I explained I had a flat and because the truck was loaded I had to wait for a tow truck for about 2 hours He said fine okay but could tell he was not a happy camper .. I figured it would be the last time I worked for him … as he said he thought I had lied about where I had been all the way up … A couple of days later he called with a little giggle in his voice and proceeded to repeat a story the mud man had told him about having to drive a hot shot driver (me) out to the hwy from the lease road to get phone service to call the tow truck.. came to realize the giggle in his voice was not because I had been stranded for hours with a flat tire but that indeed I had not lied to him … and we stayed friends forever . I’ll miss his advice even though it wasn’t always what I wanted to hear and his dry sense of humor .. Kevin kept his feeling close to his chest And didn’t say much about his feelings but could not hide the pride and happiness and that sparkle in is eyes when talking about his kids or the sorrow that seem to over take him when they were going through something he could not fix God Bless and know for certain your dad loved you all dearly

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Kevin. Sending heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends. I was lucky enough to see Kevin through my work. Kevin was a bright light in this world and was always so happy to see anyone he knew. His mouth had no filter and I think that’s what I loved the most about Kev, he could make you smile in a matter of seconds. The last time I talked to him I got at least a 15 minute visit and he was so proud of his twin grand babies. I even got to see pictures. My heart breaks for all of you..Rip Mister.
