Obituary of Gary Charles Barnes

June 20, 1944 - January 8, 2011

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Gary after a courageous ten month fight with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Gwen, his wife and best friend Carl and their son Kent.

Born in Edmonton to Charles and Gwen Barnes, Gary soon took to the athletic fields, rinks and diamonds. Sports injuries led him to take up skiing. He became active with the Canadian Ski Patrol System, Edmonton Zone. Transferred to Calgary with Shell Canada Resources, he continued his involvement with the CSPS, eventually becoming President, Mountain Division. Upon retirement from Shell Canada, Gary and family moved to Cranbrook. A gathering to share stories of Gary's adventures will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Gary's name may be made to: CSPS, Edmonton Zone, Attn: Brian Keeler, President, 8403 44 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T6K 0Z6.
