Obituary of Ronald John Becker
Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grief is both a universal and a personal experience.
To say we all, grieve the same, would be saying all snowflakes are identical. We want what is best for our loved ones, the ones that are the most important, so when saying goodbye might feel like it is the end of their story, it might just be the beginning of something greater we all don’t know about till it is our time.
Ronald John Becker ended his journey on 02.20.22.
Growing up in Fernie, BC, he was your classic Kootenay kid. The love for the area kept him close to home and rooted himself here in Cranbrook, BC.
Through the eyes of his daughter, I’m going to tell you about the man I called Dad.
Ron’s life was nothing but large, he was a hardworking, strong, and dedicated Dad, Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend. You barely had to ask him for help, he knew what was needed and was there till it was done. Even through the hardest times of his life, you would not know it.
With being raised in the Kootenays, he learned like most of us in this area just how beautiful it is. Between hiking (Thank you for taking me on hikes and creating the love of the mountains I have now) to fishing, golfing, and skiing he lived for this area.
As the oldest of five Ron was the classic big brother always watching over and protecting his family which carried through him down to his wife, my Mom Chris and myself. His support to see his family succeed and be happy was the reason this man worked so hard to give so much. From countless hours of fastpitch practices through Summer and Winter to the long road trips of tournament after tournament he never stopped and always made it about me. I thank you for all the push and drive you instilled in not just me, but the people you surrounded yourself with.
Strength can mean many things; on one hand it can mean the strength of lifting 250lbs over your head and on the other hand it can mean you fight physically and mentally for life or for the life of another. Ron’s strength for life, to be alive for his family and friends was like nothing else. Ron battled off and on with cancer for nearly twenty years, yes you read the right, twenty years of surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. This man did not stop fighting for it was not for himself, but for his family.
If you can take something from his journey, let it be the strength and love to feed your soul. We are put on this earth for what it might seem is a long time, but really it isn't. Come together, tell one another you love them, hug them a little longer, whatever it may be DO IT because my Dad taught me how valuable life really is and how much it's worth fighting for.
On behalf of my Mom, Chris Becker and myself Niki Leyh we would like to thank everyone who has been there for us, family and friends close by and far away. We appreciate your love for us and for Ron.
We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in the oncology unit at the EK Regional Hospital who made life a little easier as Dad took on his last fight with cancer. Your compassion and dedication to your patients in such a difficult time in their life did not go unnoticed. Thank you.
To Dr. Scheibenstock for the amazing care throughout the years and Dr. Wight for your compassionate care of Ron and our family during the last few months of his life.
A special thank you to Dr. McIver, Justin, and Kyle for making Ron’s last moments peaceful and pain free.
And lastly, thank you Dad, Ronald John Becker for being the most badass Dad I could ask for. You were everything to me and I will carry every single word of wisdom, advice, and love with me till it is the day I part with this world. At the beginning I said it might be the end of the story, but it just might be the beginning of something greater. Dad you are onto something greater. Mom and I will miss you more then we can explain to anyone.
02.20.22 I’ll be watching for those twos to know you are with us.
I love you Dad.
Always,
Nik
