Obituary of David William Coupland
With great sadness, the family of David William Coupland “Bilco” announce his passing on April 19, 2021, at The Kimberley Special Care Home “The Pines”.
Dave was born at the St. Eugene Hospital, in Cranbrook to William Barclay and Ruth Leona (Hamrin) Coupland. He was raised and educated in Kimberley and continued his education/career with an apprenticeship with Cominco as an electrician. Dave obtained his journeyman certificate and worked in the electrical field his whole career.
Dave, with a great sense of humour, was known to tell a good joke and ”spin a yarn” to his many friends at the Flathead hunting, at the golf course or during his coffee mornings. He was a member of the Kimberley Bootleg Gap & Trickle Creek Golf Clubs, and the Kimberley Curling Club. Dave and Rae enjoyed many rounds of golf together.
“Bilco” had a great love of sports… particularly hockey. He was an ardent fan and supporter of the Kimberley Dynamiters, Kootenay Ice and Detroit Red Wings. Dave really understood the game of hockey and excelled in teaching Billy “everything” about the game as he was growing up. Dave was recently proud to follow Ty and Quinn’s hockey careers. He also cheered on the St. Louis Cardinals for many years. Dave was a dog lover extraordinaire and devoted to Dodger, his puggle for the last eight years.
Dave and Rae spent 23 years together, they traveled around B.C., to PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, the United States and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. They enjoyed daily walks with Dodger and in the later years, watching golf, hockey, and baseball. Dave called Rae his Guardian Angel and she advocated for his care throughout his illness. Dave was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her.
Left to mourn his passing, his partner Rae Fergus, her son Ryan, Dave’s son Billy Coupland of North Vancouver, B.C., grandsons Ty & Quinn Coupland, sister Diane Taylor (Robert) of Golden, B.C., and nephews Alan and Steven Taylor and their families, many relatives, and friends.
The family would like to thank the following for their wonderful care and compassion; Dr. S. VanZyl, Dr. K. Shope and Dr. B. Biagioni, the staff at The Pines, Garden View and Public Nursing Home Care. The many caring calls and messages from Dave’s many long-time friends.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no memorial service. Cremation has taken place, and Dave will be interred in a columbarium niche at the Kimberley Cemetery.
“Rest in peace Dave, with Dodger by your side on the heavenly meadows.”
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
