Remembering Bill
I am so sorry to see my friend and one of the most avid salmon fishermen of Campbell River leave us. My greatest memory of my life was fishing with Bill and his brothers Stan and Jim for a week in late September for 15 years. Bill loved to fish and was a natural at catching big northern Coho (almost as good as me). As the older brother, Bill naturally took control of the group and tried his best to keep us under control with little success. I personally retaliated on a number of occasions to dispute his authority but usually failed as he proved too physically superior to challenge. Most of all I remember how well our fishing group clicked … we loved to laugh and kid around, have a few drinks to celebrate after a mornings fish, put forth fishing challenges, but most of all … our joy was to hit the water at daybreak with new catch expectations.
