1939 - 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Don Sharp at the age of 81. Don passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife, Bea was by his side.
Don was born on October 7, 1939 in Vernon, B.C., and was raised in Klamath Falls, Oregon, USA. He served his country in the R.C.A.F. In 1962 Don met the love of his life, Bea, in Victoria, B.C. Don and Bea married on February 23, 1963 and had three children together: Colin, Colleen, and Samantha.
Don worked for Crestbrook Forest Industries from 1973 - 2005. After his retirement, he spent many hours volunteering in his community. Don was a Commanding Officer of the Army Cadets in Cranbrook as well as the Air Cadets in Kimberley. He also served at the cadet camp in Vernon, B.C., as an Officer. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent many hours volunteering at his church, serving hot lunches to the children of St. Mary’s School, marshalling at Mission Hills Golf course, and even teaching the Girl Guides navigational skills. Don loved to play golf and was also an avid hockey fan. He spent many hours in the arena supporting and cheering on the Kootenay Ice. Don’s ability to meet people and share his friendship, kindness, many stories, jokes, and laughter was a true gift to those he met along his life’s journey.
We wish to thank all the doctors and nurses from the East Kootenay Regional Hospital that provided Don with exceptional care especially Dr. Rolandi, Dr. Lowden, and Dr. Wik.
Don was predeceased by his beautiful daughter Colleen in 2008, parents, Elizabeth and Donald Sharp Sr., half brothers, Freg Ans, Bill Reimer, sister-in-law, Hilda Lee, brother-in-law, Bill Smith, and niece, Nicki Lee.
