Obituary of Alan Sam Lees

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alan Sam Lees passed away suddenly on December 25, 2020.

He was born in Vancouver, B.C., and lived most of his life in the Cranbrook/Moyie area. Growing up Alan was an inventor, often taking things apart to rebuild them. This led to his career choice as a welder and for many years he worked on mining equipment for Teck, Rayco and Finning. Alan loved the outdoors and could be seen fishing Moyie Lake, floating in the narrows, or playing on his snowmobile with his beloved daughter Erin at his side. When not outdoors Alan would be cheering on his favourite Nascar driver or hockey team. With his infectious grin and distinctive chuckle, he lived life to the fullest and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Alan is survived by the shining light of his life, his daughter Erin Sam Lees, his partner Karen McConnell, close friend Mark Poweska and the Poweska family, sister Joanne Lees (David Roberts), nephew Zachary Roberts, niece Taryn Roberts, stepmother Jean (Powell) Lees, stepbrother Shane (Lisa) Stearn, Karen’s sister Janice (Dale) Christenson and many, many friends, co-workers, and relatives from the Lees, Barrett, Gray and Nunn families.

Alan was predeceased by his father Bud Lees, mother Marg Lees (Barrett), stepbrother Neale Stearn and grandparents Sam and Irene (Gray) Barrett, Gay/Gertrude (Nunn) and William Lees.

Alan will be forever remembered for his amazing smile, laugh, passion for the outdoors, boating, sledding and the love he had for his daughter Erin.

Rest in Peace Alan.

There will be a Celebration of life on July 16th 2022 at 2:00 pm, at Ellis Park (the old rifle range) in Moyie, British Columbia.

“Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.’

“Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me,
I will never have gone.”

Margaret Mead
