1937 – 2021
Lyla Mae Sawicki, 83, passed away on January 1, 2021, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Lyla was born on her family’s farm in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan to Dora & Lester Lee in 1937. She married Edward Sawicki at the age of 21. They were married for 53 adventurous years. During this time, they lived in Saskatchewan the West Coast and Kimberley, B.C. Kimberley was where Lyla always called home.
Lyla loved travelling, camping, and playing cards. She also enjoyed visiting with family & friends and spending time outdoors puttering in her garden. Lyla will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile and her zest for fun.
Lyla is survived by her son Cal (Theckla), daughters Brenda Gillespie, Cheryl (Chris) Bakke, grandchildren Takara Mohnssen, Carey Gillespie, James Hopkins, great-grandchildren, Conner, Kian & Ailish Mohnssen, her three brothers Wilf (Jean) Lee, Ray (Eleanor) Lee, Lyle (Joan) Lee, sister Sandra (Ron) Yaremchuk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward Sawicki and parents, Dora & Lester Lee.
There will be a Celebration of Life, with interment in Kimberley, B.C., announced at a later date.
