It may seem weird but is only today that I read about the passing away of Barbara.
I knew she was ill and I always wondered how she was doing, until this day. That's why I searched the web again and finally found this website.
I knew Barbara in the years she was called BABS. This is the time when she went to the European School in Luxemburg. At school, as a little girl still, I sat next to her and sort of admired her wit, humour and artistic esprit . She drew beautiful dogs and horses like in a stripbook. We always played cowboy and "Indiaantje"! Ofcourse we preferred not to be a cowboy because being indigenous triggered our fantasy much more. Me being quite naive and also gifted with a huge fantasy, I often believed her even bigger fantasies: the woods were full of danger!
Apart from this I also thought that the colour of her hair was beautiful: warm ginger.
When I changed school our contact faded. But Barbara always stayed in my heart.
I am very glad to be able to share this memory with Barbara's family and friends. Now I can and will shut the wonderful tiny book of our friendship; it will be kept safely in my heart.

It was a sad day when Barbara passed away.
She was a truly unique individual.
She made me laugh five minuets after meeting her and continued doing so over the following 30 years.
Spending time with Barbara was like drinking beer with a leprechaun….delightful.
The world is safe to take itself seriously again without her incredible wit, intelligence, fiery
artistic nature and enormous talent, warm heart, imagination and wacky sense of humour
(her quips rivalled the Monty Python crews), not to mention her ability to consume copious amounts of Belgian beer, South African sherry, and wines from around the world, while whipping up a gourmet meal.
For those who knew and loved her, it's a darker, more serious place without her presence.
It was a privilege to have been her friend.
My deepest condolences to her three daughters, collectively the light of her life, her friend and long time partner Graydon Ford, and her wonderfully supportive family members.

Love and strength to all the family from Bill and I here on Gabriola Island. We have so many wonderful memories of Barbara from dancing to laughing to drinking wine. We enjoyed her wonderful art, never forget when she was staying at Morden Road and she made the wonderful poster for the School District. I met Barbara at her sister Eve's in Nanaimo one summer day. I believe we started laughing immediately and whenever I think of Barbara, her memory brings a smile to my face. Even though she has passed, she can still do that. Such is the power of a hearty laugh and a true sense of joy. Thank you Eve for the lovely moment of Barbara's last shopping day. I don't think you two missed anything on her list that day. Barbara's legacy for me is to remember to enjoy it all, life is good and in her passing is peace.

Barb was a wonderful person, she was so much fun and a true free spirit. I will miss her lots. I want to send my sympathies and condolences to her family. I only met Barbara in the last few months as her room was across from my Mom in the Pines… she was lovely, and it was nice to see someone use the sunroom. She would be in there doing a puzzle or artwork and so sad that she is now gone. I met her sister and dog and send my sympathies to her family today. gone too soon.
