March 10, 1936 - July 26, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Yvon Carignan, at the age of 84, in Cranbrook, B.C.
Yvon was an incredible man who lived a very full life. He was born in St. Felix de Dalquier, Quebec and met his wife Gloria in Malartic while she was working at her father’s restaurant. In Quebec they had four children and now have many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved bringing his family together. So many great times were shared outdoors whether it was camping, skating, or swimming. When he was introduced to skiing in his fifties one of the first things he did was make sure all his grandkids could ski! Skiing quickly became one of his favourite pastimes! As an outgoing man he was always meeting new people and sharing stories. He made many lifelong friends through his passion for the outdoors.
Yvon had many skills, which led to multiple career paths. When living in Quebec he worked as a welder and ran a gym with his wife Gloria. After his four children were born, he followed his brother Jean-Marie to Williams Lake where he worked as a welder and diver. After four years Yvon and his family moved to Prince Rupert, where they spent nineteen years.
While in Prince Rupert Yvon welded, dove for abalone, fished commercially, and started working as a carpenter. After their children were grown Yvon and Gloria moved to Cranbrook in search of warmer weather. They have spent the last 26 years in Cranbrook, where Yvon continued his work as a carpenter.
Strong in faith Yvon was an active member of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and in retirement attended mass every morning at St Mary’s in Cranbrook. Always ready to lend a hand, he helped maintain Annunciation Church and school when living in Prince Rupert.
Yvon is survived by his wife Gloria, his children Serge (Virginia), Jocelyne (Carl), and Guy (Noreen), and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Gérard (Micheline), Jean-Marie (Joanne), and Germain (Simone), his sister in law Pauline and son in law Wayne.
He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Germaine, his brothers Jules (Jeannine), Roland (Diane), and Roger, and his daughter Carole. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Due to COVID 19 a private funeral Mass was held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Christ the Servant Catholic Church.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
