Grace Potter

Obituary of Grace Evelyn Potter

Please share a memory of Grace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With her loving family by her side Grace Evelyn Potter (Smith) peacefully passed away on March 30, 2020.  She was born one of eight children in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan to Andrew and Julia Smith. Our Mom married the love of her life Albert Potter on November 18, 1953.  Mom and Dad moved to our Beautiful Windermere Valley in the fall of 1955 where life was very busy raising their five children Wade, Ricky (Karen), Sherry (Randy), Carole (Wayne), Lana (Dan).  In 1972, they fulfilled their lifelong dream and bought their beautiful mountain ranch where they continued to raise their family.

Our Mom worked for the Windermere School District for 25 years as a custodian. She was an active member in her church and volunteered at Columbia House and many other community events over the years. Mom loved baking, cooking and canning and always had a special way of passing on her knowledge. Thank you, Mom, for teaching us all your skills.  She loved children and found the time to give whether that was teaching swimming lessons, Sunday school, or happily interacting with the children at each school she worked at.  Mom always made our home a safe place to come for our friends and other neighbourhood kids.  The cookie jar was always full!!  Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Lisa (Travis), Amanda (Zenon), Chad, Jodi (Matt), Kadie, Morgan (Sarah), Ryan, Brady (Nicole), Megan, Kerri (Matt), Cole and great grandchildren, Jaryn, Brooklyn, Taras, Greysen, Tavin, Nevaeh, Ryland, Sloane, Stella, Adison, Ryder, Jude, Ethan, Laine, Sawyer, Chloe, Lilly, Maverick, Rylee, Paislee and Kasen.  She spent many hours singing, dancing, playing, and telling poems and stories to them and always giving lots of hugs and kisses.

Our Mom is predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert, all four of her brothers and two of her sisters. Left to mourn her is her one and only living sibling her sister Eileen, and her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister in-laws Elsie and Olive, brothers-in-law Mark, many nieces, nephews, friends and all the kids she was a “Second Mom” to, you know who you are.

Our family would like to thank the Caregivers, Activity Coordinators and Staff for all their hard work, loving care and kindness they gave to our mom during her time at Ivy House.

A special thank you to Doctor Gareth Mannheimer for your kindness to our spunky Mom.

A celebration of life will be held for Mom at a later date.

Our Mom of all people would have been the first to step up and support her community during this very difficult time we are all facing. Please consider in lieu of flowers, donating in our Mom’s honor to your local food bank.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
