Obituary of Bryan James Wilfley

Bryan Wilfley, aged 61, of Windermere, B.C.,passed away the morning of March 29th, 2020.

Bryan grew up in Calgary and after graduating from Sir Winston Churchill High School, he attended California State University, Chico on a baseball scholarship. He graduated with an engineering degree in 1982 but more importantly made lifelong friends from his Chico days. From there, Bryan headed to Phoenix to hone his golf skills with a thought of maybe becoming a pro. Once back in Canada, Bryan worked for engineering firm Underwood McLellan and then the Calgary Cannons baseball team. His dedication and attention to detail kept the Cannons diamond one of the best in the league.

In 1986 Bryan headed to Windermere with the perfect skill set to help design, build and manage Windermere Valley Golf Course. In Windermere, Bryan married Nancy and son James was born in 1995. His son was what Bryan was most proud of and for the rest of his life, he was first and foremost a devoted and loving father.

Bryan was a quiet, thoughtful man and these qualities helped him successfully manage WVGC for over 33 years. He became a respected and admired member of the local business community. With his friendship and wise counsel, Bryan had a lasting impact on many people. His matter of fact approach to his health issues was an inspiration for all of us. Bryan was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed golf and curling. He made many friends on the links and ice and was a steely competitor with many championships under his belt.

Bryan is survived by mother Gail, sister Susan (Dan), brother Doug (Fiona), son James (Alyssa), nieces Lana, Holly and Kate, and nephews Drew and Alex.

Bryan was preceded by his father, James Arnold Wilfley.

We would like to thank the many wonderful doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who helped Bryan during his health issues. We will have a celebration of Bryan’s life at some time in the future. In the meantime, when we can again, let’s all get out and play some sports with our family and friends!
