George Karras

Born February 14th, 1934 in Taber Alberta ~ Passed away in Cranbrook, B.C. on October 20th, 2019

George met Elaine in 1958 and they soon married in June 1960. They had a great marriage of 59 years learning that any ups and downs could be corrected with love and healthy laughter. In 1977 with the benign diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, faced with a down moment, together George and Elaine choose to move forward and not let the minimal symptoms uproot their lives. George worked at the Crestbrook Pulp Mill until retirement in 1989, when the MS started to affect him with severe fatigue. It was then Elaine took a job in Oahu, Hawaii, and off they went on a new journey. George became the “house husband” and not only loved it; did his family proud!

Travel was an important part of George and Elaine’s lives; they were very fortunate to see many parts of the world thus making endless wonderful memories. They skied Lake Tahoe, had gin and tonic in Buckingham Palace, spent four glorious weeks in Greece and set sail on seven different cruises.

George is survived by his wife Elaine, his daughter Nicole “Niki” (Terry) Wade, son Robert “Bob”, granddaughters Ellen and Georgia Wade, brother Charles (Lo Ann) and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Florence Botham, whom was born in England, his father Nicholas born in Greece and sisters Katherine and Vivien.
