Obituary of Richard William Edinger
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness but profound relief that we announce the passing of Richard William Edinger on Sunday, October 13, 2019. With loving family to support him, and most especially his wife and soul mate Ruth by his side, he went to join his children in their heavenly home.
Richard fought a long and difficult battle with COPD followed by several heart attacks, the first being in the summer of 2017. His struggle for breath was a daily battle which he endured mostly with a good, positive outlook on life.
Richard met and married Ruth Dyck in 1990. Camping, dancing, western music and family events were his passion. With a blended family there were a lot of large and happy camping trips, family events and large, noisy, dinners to enjoy. The last family event was late July 2019 in Pierceland, Sask., (Ruth’s home town) for a large, joint Dyck birthday party. Although Richard had to be driven to this event, together with all his medical paraphernalia he would hear nothing about not going! Yes, he “led the train” to his very last hours, and we were so proud of him for that! With a weak and shaky voice, he even had humor for his Home Care Nurses!
For 43 years while living in Dawson Creek Richard together with a partner, John, ran Northland Machine and was known there as “Dick”. Richard retired with the sale of Northland Machine, and then moved to Creston, B.C. with his wife Ruth and lived there for the past 12 years. They enjoyed travel to various parts of the USA and until the last couple of years also to Northern B.C., AB and Sask, for family events. They always found family or friends no matter where they were.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd & Georgina “Pearl” Edinger, brother George “Buddy” Edinger, granddaughter Tamara Edinger, daughter-in-law Shannon Edinger and both of his children Valarie Myatt and Randy Edinger, plus several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Richard is survived by his wife and soul partner Ruth Edinger, sisters Sharron Billey & families, Ronaye Matthews & families, & brother Raymond Edinger, children Steve (Dawn) Dyck, Bonnie (Dean) Clarke, grandchildren Pamyla (Bruce), Alanna, Alysha (Darcy), Rylan, Kiefer, Damien, Chantelle, Miranda, Myles, Stephen, Matthew and Daniel, great grandchildren Orianna, Aaryn, Sabastian, Lyndyn, Carson, Blake, Callum, Vincent, Hayden and Sophia plus all those Creston neighbors who have become like family!
In keeping with Richard’s request, there will be a celebration of life in the spring 2020 with interment to follow in Cranbrook.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
