PHYLLIS MAY WEBSTER - JUNE 15, 1930 – OCTOBER 15, 2019
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Phyllis May Webster on October 15, 2019 at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, B.C. at the age of 89 years.
Phyllis was the eighth of ten children born to John and Elizabeth Clark in the Mountain Crest School District (9-34-27) of the Municipality of Swan River, MB on June 15, 1930. She was raised on her parents’ farm and at the age of 20 she travelled to B.C. On February 20, 1951 she married her childhood sweetheart, George Owen Webster, at the Cranbrook United Church. She worked at the Merc and Jack’s Shoe Store after her marriage until their family started. Phyllis’s family was always her main priority and until all five children were in school, she was a wife, mother and homemaker. After the last child was in school she went to night school and obtained her bookkeeping diploma and worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in Cranbrook until her retirement. George and Phyllis enjoyed camping with friends and family and attending hockey games. She continued to go to the hockey games at the Rec Plex until her health declined. Phyllis was an avid reader and always had a book beside her.
Phyllis is survived by her five children: Joanne (Les) Somerset, Donna (Frank Newcomb) Samson, Garry (Suzanne) Webster, Darren (Tsipora Donaldson) Webster and Barbara (Robert) Tolfree, grandchildren Clint (Karen Schenk) Somerset, Wade (Jamie) Somerset, Dean (Lindsay) Somerset, Brande Samson, Shaun (Wendy) Samson, Francis (Melissa) Newcomb, Erin (Christopher) Hodder, Scott (Susan) Webster, Bryan (Courtney) Webster, Lee (Alyson) Webster, Cody (Amanda Kirkvold) Webster, Paige (Colton Donaldson) Webster and Jasmine (Skylar Paulhus) Donaldson, great grandchildren Nolan Somerset, Katelynn Somerset, Cassidy Somerset, Chad Hampshire, Robyn Hampshire, Nicholas Samson, Carson Newcomb, Landon Newcomb, Isla Hodder, Alistair Hodder, Neve Hodder, Gavin Webster, Declan Webster, Jane Webster and Dylan Webster.
Phyllis was predeceased by her son George Marvyn Webster in 1955, granddaughter Kerri Lynn Somerset in 1972, her husband George Owen Webster in 1992, brothers Jack, Alex, Jim, Dick, Alf and sisters Mary Wilson, Nora Muir, Margaret McKay and Alice Hogg. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the incredible staff at the F.W. Green Memorial Home for the compassionate, loving and professional care given to our mother over the last two plus years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with interment at Westlawn Cemetery in Cranbrook, B.C.
