Obituary of Gary Dale Hanson
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
1937 - 2010
Gary died suddenly at home on January 14, 2010 at the age of 72. He was always the solid rock of his family. He leaves to mourn his wife of 44 years Melba, his son Scott and daughter Susan (grandchildren Dylan, Chelsea and Matthew) and his brothers Eugene and Tim (Bev). He was predeceased by his father Rubin Hanson and mother Ethel Blysak.
Born in Elrose Saskatchewan, Gary came to Cranbrook at age 6 and lived here ever since. He was unapologetically passionate about all things Saskatchewan, John Deere Tractors, trucks, polka music and his favorite TV show, Corner Gas. Family nicknamed him "Oscar" and friends affectionately referred to him as "The Gnome".
When family, friends or neighbours needed a hand he was always generous with his time, efforts and his truck.
Gary was a professional truck driver, proud of a lifetime of accident free driving. He was committed to safe and courteous driving. He kept people warm, delivering all types of fuels beginning with wood, sawdust and coal in the bygone era to heating oil and propane. He retired from Superior Propane several years ago.
Gary was a member of the Knights of Pythias Crescent Lodge #33 for over 50 years. When he committed himself to something he meant it!
The Funeral Service for Gary will be Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Christ Church Anglican, 46 - 13th Avenue South. Interment will be at a later date.
