Obituary of Tom Hodgson

Please share a memory of Tom to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

December 9, 1928 - January 15, 2010

With great sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Tom Hodgson announce his death after a courageous fight with cancer.

Tom was born in Duncan, British Columbia on December 9, 1928 and grew up in Nanaimo where he received all his schooling. He graduated from the first class of the Namaimo Vocational School and went on to be the youngest shop foreman with the Department of Highways at Allison Pass. In that position he developed the underbody snowplow blade and the heated and tailgate sanders, which improved winter driving conditions throughout B.C. He worked for various companies in B.C. and Ontario. At his retirement he was employed by Trans-West in Elkford. When Tom was fourteen he dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was loyal to that commitment all his life. Tom loved his family, his home and his association with his spiritual brothers and sisters. His garden gave him great pleasure and he was especially proud of his cabbages. He will be remembered for his vast knowledge and his wonderful sense of humour. He was a realist and enjoyed his life. The dignity and courage with which he accepted his cancer was an inspiration to all who knew him. Tom was a faithful, loving husband; a wonderful father, a generous and supportive grandfather, and a very proud great grandfather.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years Irene, his daughter Linda, his son Larry, his grandsons Kirk and Kent as well as his great grandchildren Hibiki and Leia.

A Memorial Service for Tom will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 20,

2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Cranbrook, British Columbia. Officiating: Lou Rogers. Donations made to the: Canadian Cancer Society, 19 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2L9 in Tom's name would be greatly appreciated by the family.
