Obituary of Angelina Corrente

(nee Trozzo)

1916 - 2010

Angelina Corrente, born in Cerisano, Italy on April 7, 1916, passed away on January 12, 2010 at the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook at the age of 93 with her daughter Maria by her side.

Angelina arrived in Canada in March 1949 along with her sister Elvira after a long journey by ship to Halifax and then by train cross country to Cranbrook. She worked as a dishwasher at the Zenith Café. She met Angelo Corrente and they were married in August of 1951. Their daughter Maria was born April 13, 1954. Angelo passed away in 1958 and Angelina was left to raise their daughter on her own. She sustained them with a very large garden and by raising chickens and rabbits and renting out her extra bedrooms to boarders.

Angelina was predeceased by her husband Angelo, 11 brothers and sisters and is the last one of 12 Trozzo siblings. She is survived by her daughter Maria (Gerry) Giles; grandson Scott Giles; grandson Christopher (Christina) Giles of Calgary; great grandchildren Angelina (her namesake) and Isaiah; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law: Carmelina Trozzo in Sault St. Marie, Teresa Trozzo in Cranbrook, and Delphina Corrente in Loria Treviso, Italy.

Rosary and Prayers for Angelina will be at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church located at 39 - 10th Avenue South at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Her funeral mass will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2010 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Angelina can be made to the: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of Canada, 600-60 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto, Ontario, M4T 1N5.
