Obituary of Helen Barbara Cunliffe

1917 - 2009

It is with sorrow that the family of Helen Barbara Cunliffe announces her passing at the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 92 years of age.

Helen was born in Fort McLeod, Alberta on May 23, 1917. She loved to knit and bake. She worked very hard until she was 67 years old. She traveled to England and Scotland - where her parents were born. Helen lived on the prairies in Alberta and Saskatchewan until she was in her early 20's. She then moved to Fernie where she met William (Bill) and they were married and started a family. They had 3 children: Edgar, Margaret and Helen. In 1944 they moved to Galloway and farmed. In 1962 Helen moved back to Fernie for a time. In 1993 she moved to Cranbrook and resided there until her passing.

Helen loved people and also taking care of people. She was a great mother, grandmother and friend.

Helen is survived by her daughter Helen (Bill) Luke; son Edgar (Lorraine); 4 grandchildren: Bonnie (Alan) McCormack, Barbara Shukin, Barry (Tammy) Cunliffe, Blaine (Kerry) Cunliffe; 8 great grandchildren: Ryley McCormack, Kayley McCormack, Jessica Schmidt (Jay), Jordan Shukin, Krysten Cunliffe, Andrew Cunliffe, Tyler Cunliffe, Cassidy Cunliffe; 2 great great grandchildren: Ashley Beninger and Ethan Beninger.

She was predeceased by her husband William Cunliffe in 1962, her daughter Margaret Cunliffe in 1946, her father Edgar Green and her mother Barbara Halbert Murdock.

A memorial service for Helen will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 1:00 pm at the McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. A private family Interment will be held in St. Margaret's Cemetery in Fernie prior to the service.
