Obituary of Clarinda Anderson
1912 - 2008
Mom left us peacefully on December 22, 2008 at Joseph Creek Village at the age of 96.
Born in Timmons, Ontario on January 17, 1912, Clarinda was the eldest of 5 children. Their mother died when she was only 12 years old ad she took an active role in helping her dad raise her siblings. After leaving home, she worked at a variety of jobs, including telephone operator and bank teller. She married Haddie in 1942 just before he left to go overseas. In 1947, along with their infant daughter, they moved to Kimberley, where their son was born.
Mom's support of her community included her work at the Food Bank and serving for several years as Girl Guide Commissioner, among other activities. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and was recognised for her long-time membership in the Catholic Woman's League, having served in several positions on its Executive. Mom was an excellent cook who also loved to sew and knit. She was an avid curler, bridge player, fisherman and oil painter.
Mom was predeceased by her brothers Raymond, Willard and Elmer and her beloved husband of 64 years, Haddie. She is survived by her daughter Pat Savage of Victoria, son Don (Rose), granddaughters Becky and Alisha (Aaron Rowe), all of Kimberley, sister Eunice Loughlan of Toronto, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Mom was a woman of dignity and integrity who taught by example. Her legacy lives on in all of us. We can take comfort in knowing that she is now in the company of those who love her as much as we do.
A Memorial Service will be held at McPherson Funeral Chapel in Kimberley at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
A reception will follow at the Bootleg Gap in Marysville.
