1930 - 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fernand Lionel Gamache on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital at 78 years of age. Fernand was born in McCreary, Manitoba on November 8, 1930. He grew up in a loving family household in Laurier, Manitoba with four brothers: Cyril, Luc, Adrian and Jean; and four sisters: Denise, Sylvia, Angel and Bibiane.
Throughout his life Fern was a journeyman carpenter, homebuilder, grocery store owner, construction site general foreman and a men's wear clothing storeowner. Fern met the love of his life Mary in 1968 and was married to her on May 9, 1969. He had a great love of life. His interests included woodworking, the Kootenay Ice and adventures with Mary in their motorhome.
Fern is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Mary; sons: Justin (Erika), Roland; a daughter Monique (Curtis); six dear grandchildren: Marissa, Victoria, Libby, Corbin, Nora and Lucas.
He was predeceased by his loving parents Phillipe and Jeanne Gamache and a brother Gerald. Although his love and his memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts, he will be greatly and dearly missed. Fern was a man who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity.
Prayers for Fern will take place at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 7:00 pm. His funeral mass will be held at Christ The Servant Catholic Church in Cranbrook on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Fern's honour can be made to the: Tom Baker Centre, Sarcoma Research Team, c/o Dr. Lloyd Mack, 1331 - 29th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2.
