Obituary of Vera Newton

Vera passed away peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2008 in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 89.

She was born June 14, 1918 in Rossland, B.C. where she grew up. After graduation she attended Trail Business College. Vera married Donald Newton in September of 1941. They moved to Kimberley in 1954. Over the years in Kimberley they spent many happy hours skiing, walking with their dogs and generally enjoying the great outdoors.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald of 59 years and her sister Olive. She is survived by her loving children, Sandra (Robert) Zahara and Lance (Lois) Newton, six grandchildren, Ryan, Blair and Amanda Zahara, and Jennifer (Mike Fergus), Lauren and Troy Newton, and one great grandchild, Elijah Fergus.

She loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, picking huckleberries, walking and she loved animals. She spent a lot of time in her last few years at the Adult Day Care Program at the Pines Special Care Home, where she was well taken care of by all the staff who were extremely good to her. She will be sadly missed by her family.

A service will held at McPherson Funeral Services, 1885 Warren Avenue in Kimberley, on Friday, February 15, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pines Special Care Home: 386 - 2nd Avenue, Kimberley, B.C., or the SPCA: 3339 Hwy 3&95, Cranbrook B.C., V1C 7B2.
