Obituary of Norman Gill
Norman Albert Gill, age 87 years, passed away peacefully at home in Cranbrook on February 8, 2008 with his family by his side.
Norman was born in Cranbrook on November 2, 1920. He received his early schooling in Kimberley. He graduated from UBC with a degree in mining engineering. He joined the RCAF and after serving overseas, he returned to UBC and earned a degree in Education.
All of Norman's teaching years were in the Elk Valley and Fernie. He was an administrator, teacher of mathematics, physics, chemistry and geography. Among Norman's fondest memories were the dedication of the many fine teachers with whom he worked and the respect of his pupils.Norman loved sports ,He played university hockey and coached high school and senior hockey. He treasured his hole in one trophy and his eight ender in curling. Golf was his favorite pastime, especially playing with his son Glen and Grandson Brent. He loved driving the country back roads with his dear daughter Beavan, and his daily game of cards with his wife Grace.
Norm was a charter member of the Fernie 3300 Elk Club, a member of the Canadian Legion, and a member of the Cranbrook Retired Teachers Association.
Norman is survived by his Loving wife Grace (nee Brock), his son Glen and his wife Twyla, his devoted daughter Beavan and his special grandson Brent. His sister in law Olive Gordon and her family at the coast.
Norman was predeceased by his parents May and Albert Gill of Kimberley.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday February 13th, 2008 at 2:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Chapel in Cranbrook, BCDonation in memory of Norman may be made to the Canadian Red Cross: 42 - 6th Ave South, Cranbrook, BC V1C 2H3.
