Edward Howard Delamont
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Howard Delamont. Ed "Bampi" passed away peacefully with family by his side at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, BC on December 19, 2007.
Born June 13, 1926 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, he was one of seven children and was raised in New Westminster, B.C. As a boy, Ed played in the Kistsilano Boys' Band under his Uncle Arthur Delamont. He served in WWII and after the war he met Teresa Pascuzzo in New Westminster while Teresa was attending Normal School. Teresa brought Ed back to Cranbrook and they were married in 1947. Ed and Teresa had a full life raising six children and spent many happy summers with the family at Monroe Lake. They loved traveling down to Pismo Beach in the winter. Ed enjoyed gambling and nice cars. He was fondly known to his many grandchildren as "Bampi" and was famous for his treats.
Ed was a long time respected businessman in Cranbrook and started E.H. Delamont Jewelers in 1947. He was an active member of the community as part of the Gyro Club and the Cranbrook Golf Club. He also served several years as a City Alderman. He was a talented trumpet player and enjoyed playing in a local band. In 1990, he lost Teresa. He later met Margaret Barber and quickly realized his new life partner. They were married in 1993 and spent the last 14 years together. Ed and Margaret remained active traveling in the US and locally. They often went for a drive with a picnic lunch and fished or just enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. Margaret has been a loving and caring wife and has remained at his side during this difficult time.
Ed was predeceased by his first wife Teresa, his son Ken, his infant grandson Christopher, his grandson Colin, as well as his Mom and Dad and siblings Beth, Walter, Gwen, Len and Norma.
Ed is survived by his second wife Margaret, his children Don (Raye) Delamont, Gordon (Sherry) Delamont, Peggy (Lorne) Rokosh, Barb (Dennis) Whyte, John (Iris) Delamont, daughter in-law June Delamont, his step-children Jim Barber (Julie Hill), Steven (Bonnie) Barber, Michael (Rita) Barber, his grandchildren Sandi (Shaun) Hendrickson, Kari (Alan) Duffy, Brenda, Joey, Janet Delamont, Kelley (Paul) Relkoff, Carly (Kelly) McLeod, Paul, Tessa, Lauren Rokosh, Rod, Doug, Micheal Delamont, Brandi, Carly, Robert, Ashley, Cydney, and Matt, Christopher Barber and great grandchildren Katie, Emily, Abbey Hendrickson, Hannah and Claire Duffy, Owen Relkoff, Rylee McLeod and Mitchell Barber and his sister Ester Leach.
Although Ed's health had deteriorated in the last few years, his quick wit and sense of humour remained. He will be missed deeply.
A memorial service will be held on Friday December 28th, 2007 at 2:30 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the F.W. Green Memorial Home, 1700-4th Street South, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 6E1.
